The AFC has set itself the following long-term goals:
Land Conservation
To conserve undeveloped foothill lands
in perpetuity.
To increase trails: both the amount
of trail mileage within Altadena and trails connected to
those in surrounding communities and the Angeles National
Forest.
To increase or maintain the population
of endangered, threatened, rare, and high interest species
in the foothills.
To restore degraded habitats for native
species.
Community Education
To increase the appreciation and awareness
of Altadenans of the foothill habitat.
To provide opportunities for education
and discovery about our foothills habitat.
Communication: Outreach and Public Relations
To build and maintain effective relations
with the public, including our elected representatives.
To increase AFC’s effectiveness
through working with local, state, regional, and national
land conservancies.
Research Goals
To develop accurate data on biodiversity
and natural resources of the foothill plant and animal communities.
To develop a network of skilled professional
that can assist AFC in meeting its goals.
Board Accountability Goals
To ensure that AFC is financially sound
and able to achieve its goals
To ensure that AFC is a going concern
long after the present Board members have left the Board
To ensure that AFC maintains its status
as a state- and federally designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit,
public benefit corporation.
As furtherance of these goals, the Board adopted the following
resolution on March 12, 2005:
Whereas, the Altadena Foothills Conservancy has reviewed
Land Trust Standards and Practices (Land Trust Alliance
2004), and
Whereas, the Altadena Foothills Conservancy agrees that
Land Trust Standards and Practices are the appropriate ethical
and technical guidelines for the responsible operation of
a land trust;
Now, therefore be it resolved that the Board of Directors
of the Altadena Foothills Conservancy hereby adopts Land
Trust Standards and Practices as guidelines for the organization's
operations and commits to making continual progress toward
implementation of these standards and practices.
